The chair has been designed to support patients, enabling them to get out of bed, mobile and promoting independence. It offers excellent pressure management and comes with a variety of adjustable features, allowing the chair to be tailored to suit each person’s unique needs.

Occupational therapist Rhianne Clark said,

“Thank you so much to the League of Friends who have kindly purchased the new tilt-in-space chair for Mary Garth Ward.”

“The tilt-in-space chair can be used for patients who have decreased sitting balance and used as a rehab aid to enable sitting out. The need for this chair was identified on Mary Garth when noticing that some patients were unable to transfer out of bed due to not having a suitable chair for them to sit in. “

“This led to higher risk of deconditioning, decreased mood and slower recovery in patients who would have remained in bed for the duration of their stay.”

“Being able to sit out in a chair helps to facilitate transfers and decrease chances of pressure sores. Sitting out can also improve patients’ respiratory systems, digestion, bowel movements, social engagement, independence, postural alignment, and most importantly, patients’ overall wellbeing. “

Mike Parsons, Chairman of The League of Friends, said, “We are always delighted to be able to support the work of the fantastic teams here at the hospital and to improve the experience of the patients. It is our mission to continue the work of the charity formed in 1955. Thanks to all our volunteers who support the League of Friends and make such donations possible.”

This support shows once again the League of Friends' dedication and commitment towards patient care.
