George Eliot @ Home

Improving the experience and care of our patients is always our priority, that's why we have introduced the George Eliot @ Home service for some specialties at George Eliot Hospital.

George Eliot @ Home is a Virtual Ward, this means that patients who require monitoring but are otherwise well enough to go home can, if suitable, choose to be transferred to a Virtual Ward.

This means you can return home days, or even weeks, earlier to recover in the comfort of your own surroundings, sleep in you own bed, eat your own food and in the company of your family, friends and pets.

Our Virtual Ward patients remain under the care of our doctors, nurses and other health professionals and wear a small, easily-rechargeable device that’s attached to your arm by a secure strap and enables you condition to be monitored remotely at all times.

Observations are tailored to your needs and include blood oxygen levels, pulse and blood pressure, with alerts in place if there are any changes so care in provided immediately.

You can also receive other treatments, such as oxygen, as well as return to hospital for blood tests or IV therapy knowing you are fully supported while at home.

Virtual Ward nurses stay in close contact with you, with daily phone or video calls, and patients are given a number to ring at any time if they have any questions or concerns or simply need reassurance.
