Intro

The chronic pain relief service was formally opened in 1981. Our aim is to help patients manage chronic pain and improve their quality of life. Our team consists of specialised physicians, clinical nurse specialists, physiotherapists, psychologists and occupational therapist.

There are outpatient clinics run by consultants on Tuesdays and Fridays. Treatment sessions are conducted by consultants on Mondays and Tuesdays and Thursdays. Trainee doctors, medical students and clinical nurse specialists may be in attendance during these sessions.

The treatments offered by this service include medications, spinal and other nerve block injections using local anaesthetics and steroids, as well as radio frequency denervation, acupuncture, transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation, physiotherapy and pain management programme.

Who can be referred to the service

Patients who have been suffering from pain for more than three months and who have not responded to the usual forms of medical management.
