We are a group of volunteers who are passionate about supporting George Eliot Hospital (GEH) to providing high quality health care services to the local communities it serves.

Our mission is to engage with patients, carers, families and the public and ensure that their experiences and feedback is used for positive changes that will enhance the quality of healthcare provided. 

Patient Forum February2023 (27) - Sandra and Cheryl talking.JPGThe Patient Forum (PF) ensures that patients are at the heart of everything we do and work to promote the patient voice at every opportunity We work autonomously supported by the Head of Patient Experience and the overarching volunteering strategy.

To achieve the above we:

  • Initiate our own reviews of patient experiences, providing reports and recommendations to senior management.
  • Undertake an annual NHS digital survey of Patient Led Assessment of the Care environment.
  • Represent patient voice at GEH committees and groups.
  • Support and assist the GEH in implementing new projects.
  • Support ad hoc task and finish groups
  • We support health and wellbeing initiatives for both patients and staff.
  • We meet monthly to share activities that members have been involved in, to plan future work and review outcomes.

Patient Forum February2023 (16) - Doing pic no masks.JPGOur group are making a real difference across all teams and services across the hospital and over the past few years we have helped and made a positive contribution to:

  • Developing and opening of the Serenity Garden (an outdoor area dedicated to the rehabilitation of stroke and dementia patients)
  • Improving phlebotomy services by gathering and reporting on patient experiences of the service
  • Improving patient mealtime experience by observing the service and talking to patients and reporting our findings
  • Improving the patient environment by conducting a hospital wide audit of the care environment.
  • Proposing and achieving reasonable costing increases to car park charges.
  • Ongoing development of a call centre in Supporting the Back to Health pathway
  • Becoming delivery drivers to support out of hospital deliveries for patients.

We are also consulted, give feedback, and get involved when the Trust is developing /enhancing services for example Family and Friends Test, translating services and reviewing patient letters.
