The ESWT machine uses high-energy sound waves to hep treat painful tendon related musculoskeletal conditions such as plantar fasciitis, Achilles, patella and hip pain.
The donation for the equipment came from the George Eliot Hospital League of Friends, a charitable organisation dedicated to supporting George Eliot Hospital
Speaking on the donation Darren Brusch, Advanced Practice Physiotherapist at George Eliot Hospitals outlined the benefits for patients: “We are delighted to have this cutting-edge technology which will provide patients with a new non-invasive treatment option at our hospital, reducing the need for injections or surgery and helping to speeding up their recovery from long standing injuries.”
“We are very grateful to the League of Friends for funding this valuable piece of equipment which will help us enhance patient care and outcomes for our patients.
The League of Friends has raised millions of pounds over the years to provide equipment and services which enhance patient care and comfort, which are not covered by NHS funding.
Mike Parsons, Chairman of The League of Friends, said, “We are delighted to be able to support the work of the fantastic teams here at the hospital and to improve the experience of the patients.
“This machine ensures access to state-of-the-art treatment in the George Eliot hospital physiotherapy department and helps to avoid the previous need for referrals and long waits to other local service providers.
“It is our mission to continue the work of the charity formed in 1955. Thanks to all our volunteers who support the League of Friends and make such donations possible.”
