George
This special voluntary role will offer patients without friends or family, the opportunity of company from another person as they are dying or, to be there to support families needing to take a break – with the knowledge their loved one is not alone.
As a companion for the dying you’ll listen, offer comfort and support, give information or simply be there for the patient, family or carer in the last days of the patient's life.
We’d like a minimum four hours commitment of availability to receive referrals per week.
Where possible we’d like to combine this with the Ward Support Volunteer role, involving the opportunity to provide ward support whilst waiting for referrals.
Aged 18+ only. Full training and support will be provided.
This role will be shaped as a 7-day service offered from GEH Volunteering, GEH Chaplaincy and GEH Specialist Palliative Care team as a joint initiative to provide this service to the Trust and the community we serve.
As a volunteer you will receive a warm welcome and a chance to:
- Enhance your personal profile
- Experience the hospital as a workplace
- Gain new skills
- Build workplace confidence
- Help your local hospital
- Access wellbeing and employability programmes hosted by George Eliot Hospital NHS Trust
