Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist, with a Special interest in Urogynaecology since 1999.

The Gynaecological Continence Service was set up from scratch, with the help of a physiotherapist and a continence advisor.

The team now consists of Mandy Casey, Physiotherapist, Kath Johnson, Urogynae nurse specialist/ Continence Advisor and I. We have links with the urologists at the George Eliot Hospital, UHCW and refer patients for tertiary care to the Urogynae Unit at Leicester General Hospital. We link up with the Continence Service in the community.

The Gynaecological Continence Team at the George Eliot Hospital NHS Trust was awarded a ‘Highly Commended Service Certificate’ by the Hospital Doctor Awards Team in the Continence Care Category (2005) as the category judge was ‘very impressed with our entry and the standards of service being delivered’, and since then we have done our best to maintain the service and better it within the current financial climate.

I introduced the Trans Obturator Tape to the Trust as a surgical procedure for the management of stress urinary incontinence and audit my results on an annual basis. I am regularly invited to speak at the GP’s lunchtime teaching sessions, to raise awareness of incontinence and modern ways of management.
