Mr Wanigasooriya is a consultant colorectal and general surgeon at the George Eliot Hospital NHS Trust. He graduated from the University of Birmingham in 2010 and completed his post-graduate higher surgical training in the West Midlands. He has experience working in General Surgery departments across almost all acute NHS hospital Trusts in the West Midlands, Worcestershire and Warwickshire.
He is also a researcher at the University of Birmingham. His research interests include colorectal cancer, genomics and emergency general surgery. He obtained his doctorate (PhD) in cancer and genomics from the University of Birmingham in 2022. He has authored numerous peer-reviewed research articles. He is also actively involved in medical education and training.
