Mr Kalimuthu Marimuthu is the lead consultant for the Colorectal Team at George Eliot Hospital who provide a full range of services in the management of all colorectal problems . Colorectal cancer management is multi disciplinary and well supported by nurse specialists, radiologists, oncologists, histopathologists, hepatobiliary surgeons, gastroenterologists, dieticians and palliative care specialists.
The team provide two week wait access cancer referrals for suspected lower GI cancers and these patients are investigated efficiently and rapidly with support services such as endoscopy and radiology. Patients diagnosed with colorectal cancers have a 24/7 access to colorectal services through our dedicated colorectal nurse specialists.
All four consultant surgeons are accredited for laparoscopic surgery and patients follow an enhanced recovery pathway following surgery.
The unit has a good academic background, participates in national audits and multicentre trials and presents routinely in national and international meetings. The Joint Advisory Group for Endoscopy has awarded the Endoscopy team full accreditation.
