Critical Care_IEXCEL Award_Event.JPGGeorge Eliot Hospital NHS Trust has held its first annual IEXCEL Awards ceremony, celebrating the extraordinary impact staff have made to patients and the wider community throughout the last year.

The event, which took place as part of the hospital's Staff Appreciation Week, named a winner in each of the following three categories:

  • Clinical: Sam Collinge, Bereavement Midwife
  • Non-clinical: Darren Kellegher-Green and Mark Whelen, Security Officers
  • Team: Critical Care

Each winner was selected by a panel of their peers, choosing from a shortlist of more than 20 colleagues and teams who have been successfully nominated for a monthly award since the IEXCEL Awards were relaunched in September 2024.

Since the relaunch, which was a direct response to feedback from the NHS Staff Survey, there has been an incredible 700% increase in the number of staff being recognised on a monthly basis through these awards.

Each nominee receives a digital certificate with their nomination on and, for the first time ever, patients and their families are also able to nominate staff through the IEXCEL Awards.

The IEXCEL Awards, which are supported by the George Eliot Hospital Charity, give you the opportunity to recognise where a member of staff, volunteer or team has made a difference to you or someone you care about. If you would like to nominate someone for an award, click here.
