The League of Friends' recent donation will significantly enhance the services provided by George Eliot Hospital's Respiratory Department, benefiting both the medical team and their patients.
The league of friend’s donation of a Pulse Oximeter which is a medical machine which get attached to the patients’ ear. This device is designed to measure the oxygen saturation levels and heart rate of patients with respiratory conditions
Speaking on the donation is Simon Powell, REDS Admin:
“The Pulse Oximeter, provided by the League of Friends, will benefit our department and our patients by providing an accurate reading for their oxygen saturations as ear probes are generally faster, more stable and provide more accurate readings than finger pulse oximeters on patients with poor peripheral circulation.
Ear lobes are less prone to motion artefacts making them useful for prolonged monitoring or for patients who are restless making the monitoring process a more comfortable experience.
These devices are also used by our Respiratory Practitioners on their community visits to help support patients who have been recently discharged from hospital as well as on the wards and in outpatients’ clinics”
The League of Friends, founded in 1955, have helped to provide a range of medical equipment, including defibrillators, physiotherapy equipment and many more items which improve patient care at George Eliot Hospital.
They also run two tea bars at the hospital, which provide staff and patients with refreshments in the main building and our maternity building.
