The service, made possible through £255,000 in funding from NHS England, welcomed their first patients at the North Warwickshire Community Diagnostic Centre at George Eliot Hospital.

Designed firmly with patients in mind, the new clinic offers a ‘one-stop’ diagnostic service for those referred with symptoms that require urgent investigation, including patients on the Suspected Cancer Faster Diagnosis Standard pathway.

Previously, patients may have needed to attend multiple appointments for an outpatient consultation and a diagnostic procedure.

The new service allows many patients to be assessed and have test during the same visit, reducing delays and the need for multiple hospital trips.

The procedure, known as Transnasal Endoscopy (TNE), uses a smaller camera than in previous investigations and is inserted through the nose rather than the mouth - making the test more comfortable for many patients and often avoiding the need for sedation.

By introducing this service the Trust aims to improve patient experience, reduce waiting times for investigation and, vitally, help patients receive faster answers and earlier access to treatment where needed.

Dr. Edmond Sung, Consultant Gastroenterologist and General Physician at George Eliot Hospital said: "We are delighted with this new service that delivers a safe and comfortable endoscopic experience for our patients whilst enabling rapid diagnosis, transforming our patient care through innovation."

Miss Ruchi Joshi, Deputy Chief Medical Officer at George Eliot Hospital NHS Trust said: “This is brilliant news - an excellent service enabling us to deliver patient centric care and making the whole care episode as effective and efficient as we can. Well done to the team.”
