He has shared his story during Alcohol Awareness Week to highlight that there is support for people if they need it.
In June 2021, Chris faced a pivotal moment in his life when he was admitted to George Eliot Hospital due to severe alcoholism. During his stay on Mary Garth Ward, he received a comprehensive medical detoxification and, more importantly, compassionate care from a dedicated team of healthcare professionals.
"The support I received during that time was lifesaving," Chris shared. "The compassion and professionalism of the team gave me the strength to take the first step towards recovery."
Since that pivotal moment, Chris has been sober, with his last drink on Sunday, 20th June 2021. To commemorate this milestone, he participated in the 2025 London Marathon in memory of his mum who sadly died of Dementia on 23rd July 2021.
"Running the marathon was a way to honour my journey and to show that recovery is possible," he explained. "So much can be achieved through sobriety."
Chris's story highlights the importance of seeking help and the profound impact of support systems in overcoming addiction. As Alcohol Awareness Week 2025 approaches, his experience serves as a beacon of hope for others facing similar challenges.
