The Trust has launched the awards as part of their International Nurses Day celebrations.

The DAISY (Diseases Attacking the Immune System) Award was established in 1999 by the family of J. Patrick Barnes, who died from complications of an auto-immune disease. During his hospitalisation, his family experienced first-hand the remarkable care and compassion provided by nurses, inspiring them to create an award to honour nurses globally.

By introducing the DAISY Awards, George Eliot Hospital joins a global community of healthcare organisations committed to recognising the invaluable contributions of nursing and midwifery professionals.

Natalie Green, Chief Nursing Officer at George Eliot Hospital, expressed her excitement for the initiative:

“We are delighted to launch the DAISY Awards at George Eliot Hospital on International Nurses Day. This initiative provides a meaningful way to recognise and celebrate the exceptional care our nurses and midwives deliver every day.

“Their dedication and compassion make a profound difference in the lives of our patients and their families, and the DAISY Awards offer an opportunity for us to honour their outstanding contributions.”

DAISY will add another dimension to the Trusts successful recognition initiatives, as the nominations for DAISY are made by the patients and/or their families. Later in the year we will be adding a second patient recognition award for our other clinical staff.

The Trust also extends its sincere gratitude to Premium Warehousing LTD for their generous sponsorship of the DAISY Awards. Their support enables the Trust to formally recognise the exceptional efforts of its nursing and midwifery staff.

How the DAISY Awards Work:

Patients, families, and colleagues are invited to nominate nurses and midwives who have made a significant difference in their care or the care of a loved one. Each DAISY Award Honouree will be celebrated at a public ceremony in their ward or department and will receive:

  • A certificate recognising their extraordinary work
  • A DAISY Award pin
  • A hand-carved sculpture entitled A Healer’s Touch

Those who have nominated the honourees will also be invited to attend the ceremony.

How to Nominate:

To nominate a nurse or midwife for a DAISY Award, please visit George Eliot Hospital's DAISY Award nomination page and complete the nomination form. Alternatively, nomination forms are available throughout the hospital.
