Untitled design (3).pngVolunteers and supporters for the George Eliot Hospital League of Friends have celebrated the 70th anniversary of the charity’s founding in 1955 at a special afternoon tea party in Nuneaton.

The event honoured the dedicated volunteers who have donated their time and energy to support the hospital over the last seven decades.

The celebration took place on Monday 23rd June at Ambleside Sports Club in Nuneaton. With supporters joining staff from the hospital and the Mayor of Nuneaton and Bedworth, Cllr Bhim Saru and Mayoress Sharmila Saru

During the event Mike Parsons, Chairman of the League of Friends, paid tribute to the volunteers: “None of this would have been possible if wasn’t for the dedication of our volunteers, who give time so freely to support The League of Friend.

“Thank you for being part of the team and continuing this 70 year legacy of making a difference to our community.”

The League of Friends has a simple but vital mission: to raise funds—primarily through their two tear bars—to provide equipment and items that benefit both patients and staff, which the Hospital Trust cannot fund directly.

Over the decades, the League has raised millions of pounds and supported hundreds of projects, playing a crucial role in enhancing care at George Eliot Hospital.

Each year, the volunteers contribute more than 13,000 hours of service, offering support and kindness to patients, staff, and visitors.
