This training tool will play a key role in supporting staff development and enhancing their skills, which will continue to provide the highest standard of patient care.

“We would like to sincerely thank League of Friends for providing the funding to purchase this abdominal mannequin,” said Daljit Chohan, Gastroenterology Advanced Clinical Practitioner.

“An abdominal mannequin is a valuable teaching tool as it provides a safe, controlled, and realistic environment for resident doctors, Advanced Clinical Practitioners (ACPs), and Physician Associates (PAs) to develop and refine essential clinical skills.

“The use of an abdominal mannequin allows all trainees to practise paracentesis techniques. This enables repeated practice, improves confidence and procedural competence, and helps reduce potential complications.

“By ensuring clinicians across different clinical areas are trained and competent in performing paracentesis, unnecessary hospital admissions can be reduced, as procedures can be safely carried out in appropriate settings. Clinicians will also be able to attend the Gastroenterology Day Unit to refresh their skills and participate in yearly competency updates, helping to maintain high standards of practice. This supports efficient patient flow, enhances multidisciplinary working, and ultimately improves patient experience and safety.”

Mike Parsons, Chairman of The League of Friends, added: “We are delighted to be able to support the work of the fantastic teams here at the hospital and to improve the experience of the patients.

“It is our mission to continue the work of the charity formed in 1955. Thanks to all our volunteers who support the League of Friends and make such donations possible.”
