George Eliot Nurses receive Nursing Times Award

Nursing Times Award 2014

The Nursing staff at the George Eliot Hospital received recognition for their hard work and dedication with a Nursing Times award for ‘Team of the Year’.

At a ceremony in London on 29 October, over 1,000 nursing professionals gathered to hear which initiatives have inspired the nursing community over the last year and to see who received an award.

This was a well deserved award for the nurses, coming after a year of dedicated team working encompassing the development of the acute medical unit and ambulatory care unit

The acute medical unit and ambulatory care team designed and built a new unit in record time with the help of the wider George Eliot Hospital team (including patients and the board). The trust was a Keogh trust under special measures and now with this and other actions have been rated ‘good’ by a recent CQC inspection and out of special measures’.

The 41-bedded AMU and dedicated ACU opened early December 2013 and by the end of December had gone from one of the worst for A/E target to in the top three, mentioned in Parliament.

“This is a fantastic accolade and shows the commitment and dedication of our nurses” commented Dawn Wardell, Director of Nursing at the Hospital.

” We have achieved a great deal over the past year, working as a team to support each other and to ensure that our patients receive the best care possible. We are delighted to receive this award which has been a tremendous boost to our nursing staff.”

The Nursing Times awards are held every year, however this year is the first year that the Nursing staff have been rewarded for their hard work.

The judging panel was made up of 82 senior and influential figures from the nursing profession, narrowing down the hundreds of entries they received into an exceptional shortlist and then selecting the worthy winners.

The judges were extremely impressed with all the hard work and innovation displayed by the entrants this year.
