George Eliot Hospital opens its doors to civic leaders at Christmas

George Eliot Hospital opens its doors to visit from civic leaders

Mayors from Nuneaton and Bedworth, North Warwickshire and Hinckley and Bosworth visited the George Eliot Hospital this week to talk to patients across the hospital.

The Mayor and Mayoress of Nuneaton and Bedworth, Councillor Chris Watkins and Mrs Colette Watkins, Mayor of North Warwickshire, Cllr Denise Clews and Mayor’s Consort Mr Tony Clews and the Mayor of Hinckley and Bosworth Councillor Jan Kirby were given a group tour to meet and greet patients on Monday 17th December.

George Eliot Hospital NHS Trust Chairman Prem Singh and Trust Managing Director, David Eltringham led the group visit for the respective Mayors and their consorts.

The busy tours visited several wards in the hospital and a visit to the Dorothea Unit which treats Oncology patients. The group talked to both nurses and patients about their treatment and services provided within each department.

The sucessful visit finished with a trip to the Anker radio studio to record a special Christmas message from each of the Mayors aimed at those patients staying at the hospital over the holiday period and staff working over the holidays.

Cllr Watkins said: “I would like to wish the patients a Merry Christmas and a speedy recovery. It has been a fantastic tour today and I hope to have more visits to the George Eliot Hospital in the future.”

The Mayor of North Warwickshire, Cllr Clews said: ”I wish all of the patients and staff working over Christmas a happy Christmas and new year on behalf of myself and my local community.”

Cllr Kirby added: “I would like to wish all of the staff and patients a wonderful and healthy new year. I would also like to wish a happy Christmas to everyone who listens to or works on Anker Radio as they provide such a lovely service to the hospital.”
