The Arden Cluster (NHS Coventry & NHS Warwickshire) has launched a public consultation on children’s services at George Eliot Hospital.

Staff from the George Eliot Hospital Infection prevention team were out in force today to encourage members of staff, patients and visitors to keep up the good work in the fight against healthcare associated infections.

Trust diabetes specialist Dr Ponnusamy Saravanan is leading new research into the effects of Vitamin B12 on pregnant women following an award of £800,000 from the Medical Research Council (MRC).

George Eliot Hospital NHS Trust will be holding its next public board meeting on Wednesday 25 April at 1.30pm in Raveloe's Conference Room. Everyone is welcome to attend. Papers for the meeting will be available from the Trust’s website in the days leading up to the meeting.

Fitness fanatics from George Eliot Hospital have helped raise money for a good cause. £4,000 of profits from the staff gym, located in the maternity unit, have been split equally between Mary Ann Evans Hospice and the hospital’s League of Friends.

Local men are invited to undergo a free prostate check-up at George Eliot Hospital on Saturday 14 April. Appointments are available between 9am-3.30pm and are open to men between the ages of 50-75 who have not had any previous investigation for prostate problems.

 
Check-ups must be booked by contacting Jean Whittaker on 02476 865400.
 
Trust specialists will be on hand to carry out the check-up and offer health advice.
Midwives at George Eliot Hospital have thanked TK Maxx in Coventry for a kind donation of £200. The money has been used to purchase bags from the shop that will be used to carry vital pregnancy information to pregnant women in the community.

A mother from Nuneaton is praising maternity staff at George Eliot Hospital who supported her through a natural birthing process.

Staff at George Eliot Hospital have been encouraged to make a commitment to uphold patients’ rights to dignity as part of Dignity Action Day.

Macmillan Cancer’s Information and Support Centre at George Eliot Hospital will be opening shortly but the Macmillan Information Centre Manager is calling for volunteers to help her offer advice and support to people affected by cancer.

The Trust is moving to reassure patients and the public after we were highlighted in the national media this week as having a high percentage of patients developing hospital acquired pressure sores. The Trust has raised significant concerns about the way this data is being reported as there is no standard way for reporting such data on a national level and therefore we feel that an accurate comparison is not currently achievable.

A local man has thanked health experts for helping him quit smoking and get on his bike.

 
With the help of the George Eliot Hospital run Warwickshire Stop Smoking Service and the Manor Court GP Surgery, Jim Jarvis from Nuneaton, has kicked his 30-a-day habit and is now closing in on completing 1000 miles on his bike, something Jim says he would not have previously been able to do.
The Warwickshire Special Care Dental Service provides an anxiety management service for patients who suffer from severe anxiety that prevents them from visiting their dentist.
Bosses at George Eliot Hospital anticipate that the launch of a new service will help to reduce the number of local people having strokes.

Cllr Phillips is calling on other local people to join him in trying to kick the habit and also raise money for the hospice. To help him achieve his goal, he has enlisted the services of the George Eliot Hospital run Warwickshire Stop Smoking Service. The service offers a range of treatments, support and advice to help those looking to quit.

Proud parents Clare McCunnie and Alex Platts, are celebrating after Clare gave birth to twin girls, Caris and Orlaith on Christmas Day. After spending over a week being monitored at the George Eliot Hospital Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU), the twins are now ready to go home.
