Security team aims to raise profile at the George Eliot

Security staff at the George Eliot Hospital have been marking NHS Security Awareness Month (SAM) with a series of events aimed at raising awareness of the security team and how they can help patients, visitors and staff at the hospital.

The aim of SAM is to create a ‘pro-security culture’ within the NHS and raise awareness of simple steps patients, visitors and staff at the hospital can take to improve security and keep themselves safe.

The Trust’s security team have been holding a series of events at the hospital focussing on areas such as the reporting of security issues, new laws to protect NHS staff and security training. An event to be held on Thursday 26 November in partnership with Warwickshire Police will look to raise awareness of general personal security amongst everyone attending the hospital.

Local Security Management Specialist Sean Mitchell, heads up the security team at George Eliot Hospital. Sean said: “It’s a sad fact that in a setting designed to care for people there are a small number of people who will look to be aggressive or commit crime. Here on the security team we are committed to ensuring a safe environment at the hospital so that other members of staff can concentrate on providing the best possible levels of care and service to our patients.

“Part of Security Awareness Month is ensuring that everyone who visits or works at the hospital is confident enough to work with us in ensuring all security concerns are reported. By working together we can ensure a safe and secure environment at for everyone at George Eliot Hospital.”
