Local NHS patients stand to benefit as two new operating theatres are set to open at George Eliot Hospital in Nuneaton this week following a £6m investment.
The theatres will operate seven days a week treating orthopaedic and general surgery patients as the hospital continues to tackle waiting lists and prepare for increased demand over the winter period.
The modular-built units took around seven months to complete and fit out and have been built next to the existing Capt. Tom Moore unit which opened in September 2020.
Welcoming the opening, Managing Director David Eltringham said: “We continue to invest in facilities on our site and these new theatres will help us reduce the time people have to wait for their care. They will also help us manage the busy winter period by continuing to provide planned care over the challenging next few months.”
As with the wider NHS, George Eliot Hospital is expecting to see higher demand for its services over winter and is asking patients to support the hospital by making the right choices when seeking care.
David added : “We also hope that people can support the hospital and the wider NHS this year by using the NHS 111 online service in the first instance for urgent care and advice. In many cases, they can arrange an appointment to be seen by the most appropriate service. Please only use 999 in an emergency.”
