Smoking behind the bike sheds is being stubbed out as George Eliot Hospital has turned a former smoking shelter into a new cycle parking facility.
The hospital which went totally smoke-free on January 1 now bans smoking anywhere on its grounds.
The change to a smoke-free site is based on NICE (National Institute for Health and Care Excellence) guidelines and the Trust’s own commitment to lead the way and set an example in providing a totally smoke free environment to protect and promote health.
Patients who do not want to stop smoking will be provided with stop smoking medication so they can manage without cigarettes during their hospital stay.
