A special ceremony hosted by the Mayor and Mayoress of Nuneaton and Bedworth celebrated the oral health achievements of over 60 adults at an event organised by Warwickshire Special Care Dental Service.
Adults received their awards from Mayor Brian Hawkes for their hard work during a year of activities. There were happy smiles from everyone that took part in the award project.
The Smile Award is a programme that aims to improve the oral health of adults with additional needs. Adults who worked hard to gain the award received specialist oral health advice including which snacks and drinks are tooth friendly. Participants then worked towards individual targets, provided evidence of their activities and got involved in fun activities.
Adults who attended care homes in Warwickshire including day services, respite care homes and supported living schemes took part in the project. The aim of the project was to ensure that the highest possible level of oral hygiene is enabled for each individual.
Oral Health Promotion Nurse Specialist, Karen Green said:” This was a fantastic achievement for everyone involved and it was wonderful to see so many happy smiles everywhere.”
British Dental Health Foundation Director of Educational Resources, Amanda Oakey said:”We are really happy to support the Smile Awards in Warwickshire.
