Popular free singing workshops which combat breathlessness announce 2018 dates
Successful ‘Singing for Breathing’ group has announced 2018 dates for its vocal workshop sessions.
This popular group welcomes others to make a new year’s resolution to join their friendly and fun singing sessions.
Singing for Breathing is aimed at patients who experience breathlessness, particularly those who suffer from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), asthma and heart problems.
The workshops are run by the Respiratory Early Discharge Service team service at the hospital, and supplement existing support provided to patients. Those who attend are given coaching and a better understanding of breath control by singing in a group setting.
Participants are expertly guided and conducted by Dr Una May Olomolaiye, and the attendees have seen great results, so much so that staff at the hospital are encouraging even more people to come along.
Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) Nurse specialist, Ruth Knowles said: "Patients who join our singing group have been really proud of their achievements. Not only does this help their conditions but it also has a really positive effect on their wellbeing.
“People do not need to be able to sing and our members have been really surprised how good you can sound and feel after attending just a few of our workshops.”
Patients who have been attending the fortnightly workshops have noted respiratory improvements as a result of singing for breathing.
The fortnightly workshops take place in the hospital chapel and are held between 12 noon and 1:30pm.
