George Eliot Hospital is offering people a rare, behind-the-scenes look into the work of its operating theatres.
The Theatres Open Day on Saturday March 5 between 10:30am and 1:30pm is aimed toward potential recruits for its theatres team as well as interested local people. The event will recreate the entire patient journey through the operating theatre and recovery ward, using staff to explain each step.
Theatre workers have volunteered to be on hand to answer questions and medical company representatives will be demonstrating specialist equipment. Light refreshments will be on offer during the event.
Michelle Norton, Director of Nursing at George Eliot Hospital said: “We are looking to recruit nurses and Operating Department Practitioners to our team and this event will help give an insight into our great working environment. Whether people are thinking of a career in theatres or are just interested to see behind the scenes - they are very welcome to come along.”
Paula Quinn, Professional Development Practitioner said: “As a local hospital we take pride in our team spirit and ‘growing our own’ staff into varied roles and senior positions. Unlike some bigger hospitals, our staff get the chance to work in a variety of specialities. We also hope the open day will be useful to people who are due to visit us as patients or who have friends and family scheduled for an operation in the future.”
People wishing to attend are asked to report to the hospitals main reception desk where they will be met and escorted to the Theatres Department. The event is open to adults only.
