George Eliot Hospital NHS Trust wants to reassure patients that there are robust plans in place to ensure a safe level of cover during the proposed second phase of strike action.
George Eliot Hospital’s Director of Operations, John Thompson said: “Following the BMA ballot mandate to support the national Junior Doctor’s campaign in relation to strike action, we will again be operating an emergency-only service between 08.00hrs on 10th February until 08.00 on 11th February.
“We will not be cancelling any operations but unfortunately we have had to cancel twenty three outpatient appointments. We will do all we can to ensure appointments are rebooked as a matter of priority.
“We had robust plans in place for the earlier strike action on 12 January which were implemented successfully and allowed us to maintain safe services for patients during this time. We will again deploy senior and consultant medical staff to cover the duties normally undertaken by junior doctors.
“We would strongly encourage patients, where possible, to avoid attending A&E by using alternatives such as NHS 111, their GP, Out of Hours GP Services and the Walk In Centre at Camphill.”
