Generous Andrea Mongan and her family have made a fantastic donation to the George Eliot Hospital Oncology department.
The family raised a fantastic £7k in memory of Andrea’s husband John Mongan, who sadly passed away last year.
They had asked the Dorothea team what equipment they would like to support patients within the unit. As a result, an innovative piece of equipment has been purchased as a result of their donation which will help patients with the unit. This specialist venous catheter will help nursing staff find a vein easily for those patients where this has been previously difficult.
A ‘JustGiving’ donation webpage was established and friends and family all supported this fantastic good cause. Within two weeks most of the donation has been raised.
Fundraising Coordinator, Jean Whittaker MBE said: “We would like to thank the Mongan family for their wonderful donation on behalf of the George Eliot Hospital. This has helped us purchase a very valuable piece of equipment to help our patients.”
The Mongan family said: “We would like to express our appreciation to the Dorothea Oncology Department. Our family have spent nearly seven years visiting the hospital and got to know the team all very well.
“In all the years of John’s treatment the Dorothea team helped us in more ways than we can possibly express and after his passing we had a compelling need for our family to give something back.
“The overwhelming support received by family and friends has humbled all of the Mongan family and we would like to express our gratitude to all those that contributed. We hope our story will inspire others to donate to worthwhile causes as it is clear our actions today can echo long after tomorrow.”
