Norovirus reduces visiting times

The George Eliot Hospital is currently experiencing an increased level of Diarrhoea and Vomiting within the hospital.  This is usually seen during winter months and is commonly known as the winter vomiting disease which is putting even more pressure on the hospital which is already working at full capacity.

The public are asked not to attend Accident and Emergency with symptoms of diarrhoea and/or vomiting but to manage their symptoms at home and call 111 if they require further help or advice.

To reduce the risk of further infection being brought into the hospital visiting times are being reduced to 2 hours per day and families should not visit if they have had any symptoms of diarrhoea or vomiting within the previous 72 hours.

Visiting will be from 2pm to 3pm and 6 pm to 7 pm from the 1 st January 2015 and this will be reviewed on the 5 th January 2015.  If the situation worsens we may need to restrict visiting times further.  In special circumstances visiting arrangements can be altered on an individual basis after discussion with the nurse in charge of the ward.
