Midwife who watched Maternity unit being built waves goodbye

Maternity retirement

A midwife who watched the George Eliot Hospital maternity unit being built from her grandmother’s house on Heath End Road has retired after 34 years of service.

A host of current and past employees of the George Eliot Maternity Unit came together to celebrate the retirement of midwife Alison Langhor.

With a passion for post-natal care, Alison particularly enjoyed looking after women and their babies after they’ve given birth. She has also been able to help mums with the delivery of many babies’ throughout her career.

Discussing her life as a midwife Alison said, “It’s not just been a job but a way of life. Being part of the experience of a new life safely coming into the world is a real privilege. However, I’m now looking forward to joining the ‘ladies that lunch’ club in my retirement.”

Head of Midwifery, Alison Talbot said: “We would like to thank Alison for her hard work and she will be truly missed by her friends, colleagues, and all the mums she has cared for over the years”.
