Maternity Midwives Jacqui Davies and Emma Bennett were presented with George Eliot Hospital staff recognition awards (IEXCEL) by local couple Giovanna and Chris Cook.
Giovanna and Chris had written to the Chief Executive asking for the two midwives to receive an award for the care and compassion shown to the couple who had lost their baby daughter last year.
The proactive midwives had also helped Giovanna develop a new monthly support group SOPHIA www.facebook.com/SophiaPLS for anyone who has experienced baby loss during their pregnancy. The facebook site is already proving popular with over 2000 followers.
Giovanna and Chris have also helped to raise over £800 for the George Eliot Hospital by holding a Pink and Blue day and participating in a charity Wolf Run. Their contribution is helping to buy equipment for the maternity unit including a relaxing bubble lamp for the maternity special bereavement room.
SOPHIA is aimed at families who have experienced baby loss at any time, from early pregnancy to late pregnancy. The group will meet to have a coffee, chat or just offer support to others.
Anyone interested in the group can come along to Combe House (situated on the George Eliot Hospital site) between 6-8pm on the first Tuesday of each month.
Combe house is one of the one floor brick office buildings on the main hospital site, opposite the main hospital building, in College Street, Nuneaton, CV10 7DJ (on the right of the main visitor car park).
No need to book but you can contact the group through email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
