2016 will ring the changes for two families who both welcomed their first children early on the first day of the New Year.

Keeley Ashby (16) and Kieran Arnold (19) of Nuneaton were the proud parents of Kingsley who weighed in at 7lb 5 oz, arriving one day later than planned at 1:12 am. Keeley, recovering after the birth praised the “really helpful “staff at the newly refurbished maternity unit.

Little Mollie arrived a few hours later at 4:41 am, tipping the scales at 8lb and giving delighted parents Natalie Brain (22) and Andrew Swann (25) of Arley a New Year to remember. Mollie May was given the extra middle name Margaret after her late great-grandmother who was coincidentally also born on a New Year’s Day.

Mum Natalie said: ”We’re both over the moon. The staff here have been smashing, especially our midwife Rebecca who has been absolutely brilliant.”

A total of six babies made their first appearance on New Year's Day in the maternity unit.
