A festive visit from local Mayors was warmly welcomed by staff and patients at the George Eliot Hospital this week.
The Mayor and Mayoress of Nuneaton and Bedworth, Councillor Bill Hancox and Mrs Sheila Hancox , Mayor and Mayoress of North Warwickshire, Cllr Terry Waters and Mrs Elizabeth Waters, Mayor and Mayoress of Hinckley and Bosworth, Cllr Ozzy O’Shea and Mrs Jenny O’Shea were given a group tour to meet and greet patients on Wednesday 20th December.
George Eliot Hospital NHS Trust Acting Chairman Chris Spencer and Chief Executive Kath Kelly hosted the group visit for the respective Mayors and their consorts. Leaders at the hospital also had an opportunity to talk to the local dignitaries about current investment in services for patients at the hospital.
A busy tour started with a visit to the Bob Jakin and Elizabeth wards where the guests met patients and staff
The group then visited the Maternity Unit where they met a few of the new mums and their babies. They asked questions about the services offered in maternity including the new born hearing service.
The successful visit finished with a trip to the Anker radio studio to record a special Christmas message from each of the Mayors aimed at those patients staying at the hospital over the holiday period.
Cllr Hancox said: “It was fantastic to visit the hospital again in my role as Mayor. I wish all the staff a Happy Christmas and my best wishes to the patients being cared for over the festive period – have a speedy recovery.”
The Mayor of North Warwickshire, Councillor Terry Waters said: ”I wish all the staff at George Eliot Hospital, patients and the local community a happy Christmas.
“I found my visit fascinating today and the staff should be proud of themselves for doing a wonderful job and the standards a quite remarkable.
Cllr O’Shea added: “We spent a lovely morning with the patients and wonderful staff. Jenny and I wish all of them a Merry Christmas.”
