Members of the Khair in the Community Group, at the Edward Street Day Centre donated £2160.00 to the George Eliot Hospital Diabetes iDEA Centre fund.
Centre Volunteer, Abeda Voraje had told the group about plans to build a dedicated Integrated Diabetes Education and Academic Research Centre (iDEA) at the George Eliot Hospital.
Community members decided to raise money to support this community project and raised funds by asking local residents and giving kind donations themselves.
Muslim community members wanted to give something back to the George Eliot Diabetes team who regularly visit to provide health talks to the local community. They are especially appreciative of Dr Vinod Patel and the Diabetes team for the valuable Ramadan Advice sessions they provide every year at their Centre, as well providing excellent diabetes services at the hospital.
Dr Vinod Patel and the Diabetes team visited the Edward Street Centre on Monday 1st February to collect the cheque and thanked the group for this wonderful donation.
Diabetes Consultant, Dr Patel said: “I am delighted with this donation to our plans to improve diabetes services in our area. We plan to provide diabetes care and education to local people and ultimately help to prevent diabetes occurring in the first place.
“I would like to thank everyone for all their hard work and congratulate everyone involved for collecting such a large donation in such a short time.
