George Eliot Hospital’s Endoscopy Unit has been recognised by The Royal College of Physicians for the quality and safety of its care - joining the top third of hospitals in the country.
The Royal College of Physicians has awarded the George Eliot Endoscopy Unit with a Joint Advisory Group for GI Endoscopy (JAG) Accreditation for 2016 after it met all of the requirements expected.
JAG ensures the quality and safety of patient care by defining and maintaining the standards by which endoscopy is practised. JAG Accreditation is the formal recognition that an endoscopy service measures up to exacting national professional standards.
Only one third of all endoscopy units have been JAG accredited (179 units out of 507 across the country). JAG congratulated the staff within the team for their continued hard work in achieving and maintaining JAG standards.
This is a significant milestone for the endoscopy team which achieved over 200 quality indicators which included safety, timeliness, quality, patient experience and training.
An exciting new Endoscopy Unit is currently being developed within the George Eliot Hospital site and will be open to patients from 2017.
Clinical Lead for Endoscopy, Dr Edmond Sung said: “Achieving JAG accreditation is an enormous milestone for our unit. This achievement is a result of the tireless dedication and commitment by the endoscopy staff and excellent team work in delivering high quality care to our patients. I am immensely proud to be working with this brilliant team.”
Lead Nurse for Endoscopy, Anna Reynolds said: “The endoscopy team has worked really hard to ensure that all our quality indicators have been met. I am lucky to work with such a dedicated and motivated team and look forward to the challenges that the new unit will bring for us all.”
The JAG Accreditation Scheme is a patient-centred and workforce-focused scheme based on the principle of independent assessment against recognised standards. The scheme was developed for all endoscopy services and providers across the UK in the NHS and Independent Sector. To achieve JAG Accreditation an endoscopy service must provide clear evidence that they have met all of the GRS Standards.
George Eliot Hospital’s Endoscopy Unit is currently based at the Day Procedures Unit within George Eliot Hospital and provides a full range of diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy services to patients across Nuneaton, Bedworth, North Warwickshire and surrounding areas.
