A fantastic £1,690 was raised for the Macmillan Cancer Information and Support Centre at the George Eliot Hospital in Nuneaton at an entertainment filled event held at Barwell Conservative Club.
Sponsors of the event included many big names such as Leicester City Football Club, Walker’s Crisps, Wilkos, ASDA, Farmfoods, Morrison’s, as well as Latavelda and The Weavers Arms in Hinckley who donated a super selection of raffle prizes.
The evening’s entertainment was provided by local group ‘ReggaRockaBoogie’ who kept everyone on their feet throughout the evening and lots of fun was had by all.
The event was organised by David and Olwyn Dell and Barry and Carol Pateman, with the help of family and friends, including David’s daughter Kerry, granddaughter Phoebe and her friend, Lauren. They were inspired to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support after losing a family member and two close friends to cancer this year who were cared for at the George Eliot Hospital.
Joseph Bates from Macmillan Cancer Support, said, “This substantial and kind donation will make a huge difference: £1,014 could pay for a Macmillan nurse for a week, helping people living with cancer and their families receive essential medical, practical and emotional support. And £64 could keep a Macmillan Information and Support Centre stocked with all the information resources it needs to support people affected by cancer for a week. Macmillan is only able to pay for its vital services like the information and support at the George Eliot Hospital thanks to the generosity of people like the Dell family who help to raise money or give their time.”
Julie Hunt from the Macmillan Information and Support Centre, based at the George Eliot Hospital in Nuneaton, said: “We were delighted to receive this wonderful donation which will help us reach and improve the lives of more people affected by cancer, so we’re extremely grateful to the Dell family. It sounds as though a great time was had by all on the night!”
