Christmas Baby No 1 2017
Harla Monkman and baby Abigail Gemma Elizabeth

An extra special present arrived for happy new parents early on Christmas Day at George Eliot Hospital Maternity Unit.

Three babies arrived before breakfast to surprise families during a busy maternity unit morning.

Baby Abigail was the first to arrive at 00:39 am weighing 5lbs 9.5oz after arriving early to mum and dad Harla and Stephen Monkman.

Delighted mum Harla said:“Everyone really looked after me and I would especially like to thank my midwife Tanya Middleton who was brilliant throughout.”

"I am looking forward to going home to Christmas dinner though. We prepared it yesterday in advance."

Abigail was closely followed by baby Mason Middlecott at 1:19am (8lb 0.5oz) and later by baby Skyler Hughes-Marriott (6lb 3.5oz) at 7.49am.

One of the midwives at George Eliot Hospital,  Laura Cawston, had a surprise baby herself on Christmas Eve. She gave birth herself to a beautiful baby boy but hasn't decided on a name yet.

Fifteen dedicated midwifery and neonatal nurses were working hard in the unit to look after the babies in the maternity hospital and Special Care Baby Unit. They have also kindly provided the babies with little gifts and hats to mark this special festive occasion.
