New check-in kiosks arrive at George Eliot Hospital

Check-in Kiosk

Kiosks have been installed in the outpatients department within George Eliot Hospital this week to speed up the check in process for patients at the hospital.

A three month trial will test this new easy-to-use facility within the Outpatients department which went live this week.

Patients will benefit from shorter queues and reception staff will have more time to spend on those patients with more complicated enquiries.

Each touch screen kiosk asks a few simple questions including date of birth and GP name and address to help identify each patient. It only takes 30 seconds to check in with this new innovation from the George Eliot. The kiosks also benefit those patients whose first language is not English because users can pick instructions in English, Mandarin, Polish, Urdu, Gujarati and Nepalese. Each Kiosk has been personalised to support the local demographics within Nuneaton, Bedworth, North Warwickshire and surrounding areas.

Outpatients Matron, Marion Foster said: “This is a simple, quick and effective way to check in and we hope that the majority of patients will start to use the kiosks.

“All of our staff are trained to use these and will be more than happy to help patients use these for the first time.

“Eventually kiosks will help to track patients while they are within the hospital and we are currently evaluating the potential for electronic Patient Calling systems within outpatients.”
