Captains donation

George Eliot Hospital was one of the recipients of a generous donation from golfers at Nuneaton Golf Club last week. The Captain’s charity handed over an enormous cheque for £7,113 to the endoscopy team within their new state of the art building due to open this spring.

Captains Martyn and June Currie visited the hospital to han d over the generous donation to both the hospital and the other charity recipient D.E.B.R.A. Both charities are going to benefit from the golf club that had organised different events to raise money. Martyn and his fellow golfers held a 56 mile mega golf day and other fundraising initiatives throughout the year

Endoscopy lead, Dr Sung said: “We would like to thank Nuneaton Golf Club for nominating the hospital as one its charities for the year.

“We are using this donation to purchase a specialist chemical cabinet for cleaning the endoscopes. We have always had to keep this in our pharmacy facilities but will now be able to have a special cabinet on site within our new building.”

Funding Coordinator, Jean Whittaker MBE said: We were astounded by the phenomenal amount raised by the golf club and its supporters and want to thank them for all their hard work.”

George Eliot Hospital is due to open a brand new endoscopy wing to the hospital in the next few weeks following completion of a £4.1m project.

George Eliot Hospital’ endoscopy unit provides a full range of diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy services to patients across Nuneaton, Bedworth, North Warwickshire and surrounding areas. The team, currently based in the Day Procedures Unit are excited about the new building which will enhance their existing high quality services.

An endoscopy is a procedure where the inside of your body is examined using an endoscope. An endoscope is a long, thin, flexible tube that has a light source and a video camera at one end. Images of the inside of your body are relayed to a television screen.
