The Coventry and Warwickshire Community TB service provides high quality, evidence based, cost-effective, patient-centred TB service in line with national guidelines and includes the following:
- Reducing the risk of people acquiring new tuberculosis infection within Coventry and Warwickshire
- Preventing secondary cases
- Minimising morbidity and preventing mortality
- Preventing the emergence of drug resistance, particularly multi drug resistant tuberculosis (MDR TB and XDR TB)
Raising awareness of TB for early detection, prompt diagnosis and referral to TB clinic is key to control and if any team would like more information about TB epidemiology or to discuss patient management then don’t hesitate to call us and we can come and speak to you and your practice. TB is everyone’s concern and multi-disciplinary, partnership working across the community is essential, health and social care, voluntary and charitable organisations, housing and probation to name a few all have a contribution to make in managing and controlling TB.
As well as caring for patients with TB, the team identifies and undertakes all necessary contact tracing among household and other ‘close’ contacts and reports all screening outcomes to primary care teams for future awareness should their patients ever present with TB symptoms.
