The Trust’s respiratory department is led by three consultant chest physicians and together with a team of specialist nurses provides a comprehensive service for the diagnosis, treatment and management of respiratory illnesses including airway diseases, cough, suspected lung cancer, plural effusions, breathlessness and obstructive sleep apnoea.

Services and clinics

  • Investigation of suspected lung cancer (results best in county)
  • Diagnosis and management of airway diseases including a well developed service for COPD (successful peer review in 2007) and treatment for asthma etc.
  • Well developed COPD service (successful peer review in 2007)
  • Treatment for asthma with links to tertiary centres that can treat difficult asthma cases
  • Provision of clinical leadership for the Coventry and Warwickshire TB service
  • A fully equipped lung function measuring laboratory (physiology service) as part of the Cardio Respiratory Unit providing diagnostic physiological measurements and treatment for obstructive sleep apnoea
  • Well equipped endoscopy suite providing bronchoscopies and local anaesthetic thoracoscopy
  • Bronchiectasis and TB clinics
  • Breathlessness management services
  • Diagnostic physiological measurements
  • Pleural effusions (as part of an ambulatory care pathway)
