Services for patients
The Physical Health Psychology Department provide a psychological service to patients of George Eliot Hospital.
We support patients and their carers in coping with physical health conditions. This includes acute trauma, chronic and life limiting illnesses.
We also liaise and maintain close links with professionals from services outside of the general medical field such as mental health and the voluntary sector.
Services for staff
We also support other professionals in their work with patients. This includes training, supervision and consultation.
What do we consider?
It may be appropriate to consider a referral to psychology, when patients are struggling to adjust to their condition, and may be experiencing:
Low mood or depression
Anger and irritability
Ways of working
Psychological assessment and interventions may be provided to

Multidisciplinary team working
Consultation with other professionals
Staff supervision and support
Teaching and training
Our service covers any patient who is under the services of the George Eliot Hospital. We offer specialist input to the following areas:
However, we also have general funding to receive inpatient and outpatient referrals from across the hospital. We typically receive referrals from areas including diabetes, gastroenterology, and pain management.
We regret that currently we are unable to take direct referrals from GPs, or referrals for general neuropsychology.
