Counter Fraud

Counter fraud policy

Sadly, as in most walks of life, fraud is an issue for the NHS.
The Director of Finance in every NHS Trust and Health Authority has to appoint a Local Counter Fraud Specialist (LCFS), who works with the NHS Counter Fraud & Security Management Service to form the first line of defence against fraud and corruption.

There is a confidential telephone service allowing NHS staff, practitioners, contractors, patients and others who come into contact with the NHS to report any suspicion of fraud that they may have.
Trained specialist operators will take details of any suspicion of fraud occurring within or against the NHS in confidence, before passing on the details to local counter fraud specialist for investigation.
Calls can be made to the NHS Fraud & Corruption Reporting Line on 0800 028 4060 between 8 am and 6 pm Monday to Friday.  All calls are confidential, and callers may remain anonymous if they wish.
