Welcome to the Patients Forum - Our Patient's Voice

We are volunteers who act as a link between the George Eliot Hospital NHS Trust and patients, their families and carers.

We work together to:

  • Listen to patients, report any issues and also represent the views of patients in decision making within the trust
  • Represent patients at George Eliot Hospital and act as ambassadors within local communities.
  • We support health and wellbeing initiatives organised for both staff and patients organised by the George Eliot Hospital.
  • Make a real difference to our patients to ensure we have safe and caring services

Patients Forum members are making a real difference within the George Eliot.

Patients Forum members are helping a number of projects including

Getting Everyone Home - Working together to achieve a safe and timely discharge for all our patients

  • Medicines Safety
  • Infection Control
  • Restaurant Meal Provision
  • Antenatal Unit kitchens
  • Development of Multi Faith room
  • Health and Wellbeing

The group are also increasingly being asked to get involved in other projects within the hospital due to the very valuable contributions.

“When my career as a Practice Manager in a large Doctors surgery in Coventry ended in retirement I wanted to become a volunteer and give something back to the NHS to say thank you for everything they do for the patients”  Sandra Simm, Patient Advocate

"I have been a volunteer at the George Eliot for over 14 years.  I am a Hospital Advocate, and a member of the Patients Forum. My remit along with three of my colleagues is to visit the wards and outpatient areas, talking to patients and staff to make sure patients are happy, well fed and watered and all areas are clean and tidy" Eunice Rose,Patient Advocate

Why get involved

Patients Forum help to make a real difference to patient care and experience and represent the patients voice within the Trust.

Patients Forum members currently;

  • Attend monthly meetings of the Forum
  • Audit and survey services/departments
  • Our patient representatives on Trust groups and committees
  • Talk to patients, visitors and staff
  • Undertake environmental assessments
  • Meet with new Junior Doctors

Reporting Arrangements
  • The group provide feedback by identifying areas of concern , which are responded to and are in the main part responded positively to, to improve areas within the hospital for patients and service users. This is offered from a lay persons point of view either via direct feedback to staff at user groups and more formally, through recommendation reports to the executive team
  • The group acts as a critical friend to the Trust, working independently but feeds into the Trust's Patient Experience Group and prepares a formal report on a bi-annual basis to the Quality Assurance Committee.
