LAMP (Loop Mediated Isothermal Amplification) Covid-19 testing is now available for colleagues that work on site for at least one day a week. These tests are used weekly for people without symptoms and will replace your regular Lateral Flow tests as they are more accurate.

Test packs will be available at the Hub opposite WH Smith during office hours Monday – Friday. These will contain enough tests for six weeks.  If you require a test pack over the weekend please contact the COVID-19 Test & Trace team on 02476 15 3467 or email stafftestc19@geh.nhs.uk.  If you require a test kit out of hours please arrange this with the COVID-19 Test & Trace team in advance who will ensure this is available for you to collect when you arrive to work.

When you have collected your sample at home simply drop your sample in to one of the red collection bins (located at entrances to the hospital) . These are sent to be tested. The results are processed quicker than the usual PCR swab tests and notifications of both positive and negative results are sent back to you via text message – usually on the same day. Instructions on how to perform the test are available here.

How do I log the results

Each time you do a test you will need to log the details on Swift Queue.  Register online at https://www.swiftqueue.co.uk/uhcw_saliva.php. This will set up a 6 week schedule of weekly collection days and text reminders.

Your screening cohort is:  GEH Asymptomatic Staff Saliva Test

To log your sample enter the date and time of sample collection and the bar code number – this is the six digit number after the word LAMP under the barcode on the sample tube.

Remember to write your name and date of birth on the sample tube.  Place the pot and absorbent pad inside the clear specimen bag provided, then seal in the yellow outer bag.  Drop the sample as soon as possible on the same day you take it at one of the staff collection bins at the hospital.  Collection bins are located at the main entrances to the hospital.

What happens if you test positive

If you did a LAMP saliva test or lateral flow test and the result was POSITIVE:

  • Self-isolate straight away – check if people you live with need to self-isolate
  • Get a PCR test (a swab test that is sent to a lab) to confirm your result – you can arrange this at our onsite testing POD by contacting 02476 15 3467
  • Continue to self-isolate until you get the result of the PCR test. Follow the advice you're given when you get the result.

What to do if you work at home and don’t regularly visit the site

Carry on taking and reporting regular lateral flow testing. You can order kits online (https://www.gov.uk/order-coronavirus-rapid-lateral-flow-tests).

We hope to roll out LAMP testing to all staff eventually – watch this space.

You can find out more about LAMP saliva testing by reading the attached information sheet and by watching this video

Submit your staff home test results

Staff can still submit Lateral flow tests using the button on the home page or linked on this page until November 2021 while they move over to LAMP Saliva Testing.

Staff based at home can carry on taking and reporting regular lateral flow testing using kits from Gov.uk. You can order kits online (https://www.gov.uk/order-coronavirus-rapid-lateral-flow-tests).
