MRSA Screening

The Department of Health (DH) recent guidance for NHS Trusts has identified that by 31^st March 2009 all elective admissions should be routinely screened prior to admission with some exclusions. Click here for further information.

Since July 2007, all elective patients attending the Pre-Assessment Clinic (PAC) at the George Eliot Hospital (GEH) NHS Trust were screened for MRSA (apart from routine elective day case surgery). However by the 31^st March 2009 all day case surgery patients with some exceptions will also be screened.

The patients who will not be routinely screened are:

·        Day case ophthalmology cases

·        Day case dental cases

·        Endoscopy cases

·        All paediatric cases

·        Obstetrics cases apart from elective caesarian sections
